How to wash satin bedding so it lasts for years? A practical guide.
Cotton sateen bedding is synonymous with luxury and comfortable sleep. However, to maintain its properties – softness, shine, and durability – it requires proper care. Here's a proven method for washing satin bedding that will allow you to enjoy it for years to come.
1. Washing temperature – only 40°C
Cotton satin bedding should be washed at a maximum temperature of 40°C.
Why? Because the delicate satin weave can be damaged at higher temperatures. Washing at 60°C or 90°C is usually reserved for synthetic or industrial fabrics.
2. Do not use bleach or strong detergents
Instead, choose a mild detergent for colored fabrics. Avoid laundry detergents with bleach—they can damage cotton fibers and cause bedding to lose its color and softness.
3. Wash inside out – always
We recommend always wash bedding inside out and fastened (zipper or buttons).
This will help you avoid damage to the fabric and abrasions from the washing machine drum.
4. Drying – preferably in the open air
If possible, dry your bedding naturally by spreading it out on a drying rack.
Avoid tumble drying, which can cause satin to shrink and dull.
5. Should I iron it? Yes, but be careful.
Cotton satin is naturally smooth, so ironing isn't usually necessary. However, if you do need to iron it, use a low-temperature iron, preferably through a thin cotton cloth.
